GMOs

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)

I discovered that both cottonseed oil and xanthum gum are GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms). I learned so much I got involved in educating others. I did a website, I worked for a non-profit that educated people and I organized an organization in my state to eduate others. I became involved on a national level with other state leaders. I got invovled in my community and partnered with the local organic coop to provide education. You can learn a lot more about GMOs by visiting a great website, GMO Free USA,  created by a very dear person, friend and a passionate mom, Diana Reeves and her co-founder, Luan Van Le. Another great website is GMO Action Alliance.

GMOs currently on the market are corn, soy, canola, sugar beet, cotton, alfalfa, Hawaiian Rainbow papaya, yellow crookneck squash, zucchini, and derivatives of those crops including cottonseed oil. Aspartame is also a GMO. GMO ingredients are used in as much as 80% all processed foods in America.

GMO crops are engineered to withstand heavy applications of toxic herbicides like Monsanto’s Roundup, killing weeds and all other plant-life except the crop. These herbicides, in themselves, are harmful to human health and the environment. GMO Bt crops are engineered to produce a toxic insecticide within every cell of the organism in order to kill the bugs that attempt to eat the crops. Monsanto’s unlabeled GMO Bt sweet corn is now sold in stores across North America.
