Spiritual means different things to different people. Having been raised a Christian, I am spiritually connected to God. I also find spiritual peace in the beauty of nature, and it is here that I feel the closest to God. I find a spiritual presence not only around me, but also within me. It is in the toughest times that my spiritual strength has sustained me. True healing encompasses more than just your body, it is also a healing of your mind and your spirit.
After my sudden cardiac arrest and at my weakest physical point, my cardiologist told me that “some things are out of my control” and that some patients in my condition recover and some die. I answered him saying, “whether I live or die has never been in my control doctor, it is God’s will…not mine.”
You see, I do not fear death. I will rejoice the day I am free from this world and am in God’s eternal kingdom. Only in heaven will there be beauty and peace that surpasses this world we have come to know. However, God isn’t done with me yet, so I best be getting stronger so I can get busy doing what I’m supposed to be doing on this earth.
I often think of the 13th verse of Philippians chapter 4, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It makes more sense when taken in context, so I provide the verses that precede my favorite one.
Thanks for Their Gifts
10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
As I healed, through God’s grace, I prayed for guidence. I knew that if I asked, I would be given grace and gifts to help me. I had to trust Him completely and if I listened, I would know. In my heart of hearts I would know what I should do. So I kept my eyes and ears open and a movie came across my radar. “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead“. I told my cardiologist about this film. I told him that night he called me to tell me I may not make it that I had just watched the movie and we were fixing a “Mean Joe Green Juice“. He laughed. I’m not sure if it was the title of the movie or the idea of juicing, but I knew I was on the right path. You see, I remembered this verse I have highlighted in my Bible. So I figured that God wanted me to juice my vegetables and fruits in order to get the nutrition my body so desperately needed to heal.
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
What did God Want to Keep Me Around For? What is My Calling?
Surely God had a reason to keep me around…again. My grandfather, a Baptist preacher, had told me when I was a child that God had saved me for a reason. I nearly died from pyloric stenosis when I was a baby. He told me that I was special and God loved me and had a purpose for me. I never knew what he meant, but I knew that all in God’s time he would reveal to me my purpose. It wasn’t until I had my heart attack that I realized truly what my purpose was.
2 Peter 1:3-11
Confirming One’s Calling and Election
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,a make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I feel that my reason for living is to share with others the incredible power you have within yourself to heal. It is my desire to impart what I have learned to help others to find their true health. It is with God’s grace that I share my knowledge with you and to share life, love and happiness to everyone I meet. For God so loved the world….and so do I.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
