Following my Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in December 2014, I learned a LOT. Before I continue, let’s discuss the difference between a heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest. They are both related to heart disease but have two very separate physiological components that involved the heart and completely different treatments. The reference to the heart quivering when experiencing ventricular tachycardia in this article and the possible link to the musician’s quivering hand in one of Trudy’s presentations is perhaps a “aha” moment or merely a coincidence? I think not.

My heart condition, a heart rhythm known as “Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB)” is linked to anxiety. The one drug that has worked for me to calm my heart, my mind and my gut has been Xanax. I’ve wondered why. When I researched what this drug does in the body I learned that it enhances GABA. So my search began on how to provide GABA naturally, preferably through diet. I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot.

What is GABA?

is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. It plays the principal role in reducing neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone.[2]

My inspiration and new “rabbit hole” came when I stumbled upon a condition that I struggle with, a life long deficiency of B6, called pyroluria. After suffering with morning sickness with both pregnancies, and weighing <120 pounds, my OB/GYN prescribed additional B6 during my pregnancy along with my normal prenatal vitamins. For me this worked like a charm. When Trudy started talking about B6 and then GABA….I knew there was something in it for me to learn.
